There’s no doubt that the Covid-19 pandemic has plunged us all into uncertain and unsettled times. This past year has been a huge challenge for us all, filled with loss, anxiety and loneliness. Not to mention how it has affected the creative sector; according to the results of our membership survey in 2020, over 80% of our members said their work or practice had been significantly affected by the virus.
In line with advice from Public Health England, we closed The Workshop and postponed all face-to-face meetings, workshops and events back in March 2020. However since then the team has been working from home, developing new ways of connecting with members online, working hard to ensure that we continue to foster an active and engaged community of creatives, providing support and advice when you need it most.
We have developed our Get Busy series of events, providing 1-2-1 support for members adapting and developing their practices in response to the pandemic. We are also very proud that, as part of our work with Sheffield Culture Consortium, we successfully lobbied for and distributed £77,000 to 83 creative freelancers to help them solve the problems the pandemic has thrown at them.
We are hopeful that with lower numbers, the vaccine rollout and the gradual lifting of lockdown restrictions, we will get to see your faces and be able to safely re-open The Workshop to you all soon.
In the meantime stay safe, look after yourselves, and find us on a zoom link near you.
Keep in touch.
With best wishes,
Jane, Oriana, Kate and all at Sheffield Creative Guild
