Call out for Board Members - Deadline 20th October
As a cooperative, and as stated in our Articles of Association, part of the purpose of our AGM is to hold elections for the Board as every year, a third or more of the Directors have to step down. These retiring Directors, however, are allowed to put themselves again for election if they want to. All new Directors have to be voted in by members. This year we are looking to elect 2-4 new directors.
Please note, you must be a member of the Guild to both stand and vote in this election.
Being a Board Director is an unpaid position, but it is an exciting and rewarding role which will strongly benefit the Guild and the city’s creative communities.
Who are we looking for to join our board?
You! The Guild board needs to reflect its membership and therefore we are looking for nominations from a wide range of people with differing skills, knowledge and experiences.
However, to be helpful and narrow it down a bit, we are looking for people who:
- are connected to the creative sector in the Sheffield City Region
- are keen, able and willing to play an active and full role in the development of the Guild
- have proven experience and a track record in one or more of the following; marketing, strategic development, management at a project or organisation, legal experience, HR experience, experience working with, for or as a creative of any genre, lobbying or advocacy, financial expertise.
How much time will it involve?
The Guild needs full commitment and willingness of the whole board to support its staff to develop the Guild and ensure its success. This will include playing an active role in the recruitment of members, assisting in planning and supporting events and projects and supporting the strategic development of the Guild as a whole. The current Board meet for two hours each month (excluding August and December) however there are sometimes smaller meetings, commitments and events in between.
How do I apply?
Please express your interest by sending your CV and a statement of no more than 250 words or a video application as to why you would be a good Board Member to Jane on firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday 20th October, 5pm.
All statements will be uploaded to the website before the AGM so that members can see the nominations prior to the vote.
What happens at the AGM?
All statements will be available for members to read at the AGM. A vote will take place at the event via ballot boxes and will remain open via email one week after the AGM so all members will have a chance to vote. New Board Members will be appointed to the board in January 2018.
Thank you for expressing your interest, we look forward to hearing from you.
