We are seeking people to join our Board in 2022, to work alongside our existing board directors in supporting the Guild in our mission to connect, support and promote our members and the wider creative sector, advocating on their behalf and partnering with others so we can all thrive.
Sheffield Creative Guild’s directors have responsibility for governing the organisation. They are responsible for the legal, financial and organisational overview and the strategy that underpins our activity. The board includes a mix of Guild members and people who bring their skills and experience from other areas to support our work.
Who we are looking for:
If you don’t have previous experience of being on a board of directors, please don’t let that deter you from applying. We are happy to offer the opportunity to ‘shadow’ one of our existing board members to ease you into your position and to help you to understand what will be involved before you pull up your own seat at the table.
We’d love to hear from you if you share our vision and are keen to generously share your experience and skills to support our work. We are looking for people who are active or interested in the creative sector and believe in the value it brings to our city and wider economy.
Sheffield Creative Guild recognises systemic exclusion within the arts sector and we are striving to put equity and inclusion at the heart of our work; we want our board to reflect the diversity of our city and sector. In supporting this, we particularly welcome applications from:
- People of the Global Majority
- D/deaf, disabled or neurodivergent people
- LGBTQI+ people
What the role involves:
The role of the Board Director is to support the work of Sheffield Creative Guild and provide leadership and strategic governance, in line with the core purpose and policies of the company. Sheffield Creative Guild is a limited company and a registered cooperative, and our board of directors are guided by the guidance and good practice provided by the UK Government and Cooperatives UK.
The board usually meets six times a year including an AGM (Annual General Meeting) open to all our members. In addition to this, the board may get involved in events, training or on sub-committees. A key aspect of the role is to build a working relationship with the Guild staff team and other board members (sheffieldcreativeguild.com/what-we-do/our-team/ )contributing to collective and considered decision making.
