Lockdown Diary: Kate Wood

We caught up with Kate, our new Marketing & Development Officer, to find out what she’s been up to over the last few weeks.

Donkey Skin (1970)

WATCHING → My concentration is a bit shot so I’ve been after comfort watching, which basically means lots of musicals. Highlights have included Hello DollyHedwig and the Angry Inch, Jacques Demy’s Donkey SkinGypsy, and – I’m not ashamed to admit – Mamma Mia! In terms of TV, the next thing I’m excited to devour is Michaela Coel’s I May Destroy You.

READING → I just finished Akala’s Natives, which was fantastic. I’m also reading Ta-Nehisi Coates’ debut novel The Water Dancer, which is slippery and hard to categorise.

ATING → We’re steadily working our way through the entirety of Meera Sodha’s truly excellent cookbook East. Our favourite so far is honey soy and ginger braised tofu. Try this similar recipe. I’m also very into elevenses, which at the moment usually consists of a cold brew (I’m obsessed with these) and three jaffa cakes.

MAKING → I’ve gotten very into embroidery (particularly designer Kaffe Fassett), which I like to do while listening to podcasts. (If you haven’t already heard it, I’d really recommend the New York Times podcast, 1619.)

AND FINALLY, TELL US ABOUT YOUR WORKSPACE → At the start of lockdown I was quite diligent about working at the desk in my little home office but as time goes on you can regularly find me on the sofa, on my bed, on the floor…
