Artist for Treasure Map Making Activity – Family day at Stickyard, Chatsworth

Posted on: 06/06/2022

We are looking for an artist interested in a (treasure) map-making activity, involving approximately 15 children/young people (age 5 to 15).

Event Date: Wednesday 17th August 2022
Fee: £360, Materials budget of £250 incl. of VAT and reimbursement of travel costs.

We are working with the outdoors/garden engagement team to provide an informative enjoyable day in the Chatsworth’s Garden and Estate grounds for max. of 30 participants.

The activity may be inspired by the Chatsworth Garden theme for 2022: Pollination and/or the exhibition around the estate ‘Radical Horizons – The Burning Man’.

We would like the children to take a lead or to guide, using the map(s) created to guide their parents/carers as well as members of staff and volunteers around the Chatsworth Garden and/or wider Estate. We would like to make this map available in the legacy publication or offer ideas on how children and young people might create maps that may be used by other visitors to Chatsworth or other places in the Peak District National Park.

There are some interesting features in the Chatsworth Garden, notably a 300-yearold Cascade (often used in summer for cooling off) the Willow Tree fountain in the lake adjacent to the House, a Maze, a Rockery and a Kitchen Garden that is actively managed by volunteers and a team of 20 gardeners.

We will have the use of the Stickyard centre, a covered open-air venue situated near the children’s playground* at the back of The House. There are toilet facilities (with disabled access), as well as tables and chairs for activities. From the Stickyard there is a passageway into the Kitchen Garden and the rest of the Chatsworth Garden.

*We may also have access to the House but during busy summer holiday times we may not be able to explore freely – this will need to be negotiated with the staff team at Chatsworth

** The Chatsworth farmyard and adventure playground is managed by a private company and we probably will not be able to negotiate access to this area

Deadline: Friday 1st July 2022

To apply: If you are interested in being considered to deliver this activity, please provide a link to previous work relevant to this opportunity and a brief proposal (500 words) with costings. Send applications to [email protected].
