Collaborators for new co-created VR experience, MIRPUR

MIRPUR is a co-created virtual reality experience which will use verbatim stories, research, and modern mapping technology to bring to life old Mirpur, a small village which has been submerged under the Mangla Dam since its construction in the 1960’s. It is estimated that over seventy percent of British Kashmiris have heritage that link to this village and the surrounding geography.

This is an expression of interest call to be part of the production’s development phase when the following roles will work with the Director Hassun El-Zafar (My Name Is Rachel Corrie, Theatre Delicatessen 2018; Children of War, Sheffield Theatres 2020; HEAR, Wakefield Arthouse 2021.) and Producer Pippa Le Grand (Migration Matters Festival, 2021; The Makerspace at Portland Works, Sheffield, 2019-2021):

Community Researcher: Able to work with communities from mirpuri diaspora, build trust and collect verbatim stories. Ability to speak local mirpuri languages is essential. Experience gathering stories and connections with communities is also essential.

History, Geography & Archive Researcher: Able to access and research archives and geographical/historical data of old Mirpur city, including pictures, maps, city plans and area typology. Will work closely with VR creator and community researcher to authenticate the piece.

VR Creator: Experienced in creating VR worlds. Able to take verbatim stories and real data provided by the team to create authentic pieces in the direction provided by the Director.

Sound Designer/Composer: Experience in theatre/VR essential. Experience with working with South Asian/Kashmiri music is desirable. Will be required to create the score for the piece under the direction of the director.

Dates of R&D: February 2022, Dates TBC closer to time
Pay: Each role will be paid in line with standard ITC rates
