Founded in 2015 and based in Sheffield and London, Tilted Axis is a not-for-profit press publishing cult, contemporary fiction translated from Asian languages. In 2017, we publish the UK's first ever translations of modern Thai and Uzbek literature, adding to a list that also features Bengali, Korean, Japanese, Indonesian, and Turkish. Our books are a favourite with independents, stocked in Waterstones and reviewed in the national papers.
As part of carving out a new direction in the publishing industry, Tilted Axis is also dedicated to improving access. We’re proud to pay our translators the proper rate, now set at £95 per 1,000 words, plus a 1% royalty, and to offer the Living Wage to all employees. We have never employed unpaid interns, and never will. From 2017 we have pledged 50p from the sale of each of our books to ASSIST Sheffield.
