I have enjoyed working with textiles since childhood; all the usual crafts – dressmaking, patchwork, knitting, crochet, macrame, needlepoint etc. I got more serious about it after reducing my hours of work in IT and taking a City & Guilds Creative Embroidery course. This led, by a convoluted path, to a fascination with weaving and a diploma in Design for Hand Weaving.
I love to experiment with new weave structures, from heavy rugs to lightweight cloth. But colour is the main inspiration; loud and bright or delicate and subtle, the combination must be right. So of course I have to be able to dye the correct colour if it can't be bought and another fascination is triggered.
I am happy to work to commission. I also teach various aspects of hand weaving – individuals or small groups only.
