2020 has undoubtedly been tough one for everyone but there have been pockets of good news amidst the bad, here are our headline news from the past year.
We moved into a new space, The Workshop at Orchard Square – home to our offices and (eventually) to our events programme when we’re safe to meet in-person again.
We held an open call and commissioned a new mural for the outside wall of the space. Guild member Molly Jones did us proud with a glorious new piece of public art, which now welcomes visitors to Orchard Square.
Another of our members, Will Rea, was commissioned by Orchard Square to paint a huge a mural on the outside of the building – so the Guild family is feeling very embedded.
Just three weeks before the first national lockdown in March, we held a launch event for the space, with performances, workshops and an exhibition, all run by our wonderful members.
We also received funding from Arts Council England’s Emergency Support Fund to see us through Covid, helping us cover the costs of our overheads and providing new equipment to enable the team to work from home.
This funding has also paid for the first stage of the redevelopment of our website. We’ve been working with Guild member and web designer Rich Wells to update the look of the site and improve the users’ experience.
We successfully moved our events programme online, including a new series of one-to-one sessions with industry experts, digital coffee mornings with local arts organisations and practitioners, and a series of creative and practical workshops.
Members can find links to many of these workshops over on the Tutorials section of the website. Get Busy! continues into the new year, including sessions on digital marketing, finding funding and writing a business plan.
